Life Cycle of a chicken - Embryo Development

A website with pictures of stages of growth of a chick from egg. Useful if you want to show kids how a chick embryo grows in a fertilised egg, you may want to paste the pictures into a powerpoint presentation for easy viewing. (Warning: Some of the pictures may seem a little disturbing)

SUPERMARKET SHOPPING for lower primary

I kind of found this fun to do too. It's an activity from PBS under Arthur and has the kids choose items for DW(Arthur's sis) according to specifications. Activity builds listening skills.

Arthur to the rescue Letter Writing

Arthur at PBS has a section on different parts of a letter, email, greeting card and postcard. Great if you want to teach text types as mentioned.

Create News in Class!

Scholastic has a great site where kids can explore parts of a newspapers and learn to create their own papers! Set deadlines for publishing and involve the kids in editing. If you can get a printer up and running in class, you should spot the budding journalists soon. Set aside a time in a week for "Newsworks" so kids can look forward to it. Activity reinforces writing skills, provided at least one paper is produced.

For older kids, try this link at PBS. Teaches kids to be a correspondent/reporter. Has an activity that allows kids to investigate an incident, ask questions and submit reports for review. It also gives kids feedback on their progress. I would say it is fairly engaging.

The site also offers extensive resources for teachers to introduce news reading in class.
